Is there any good steampunk besides The Difference Engine?

Probably one of the best books I've read.

I've also read this, but the religion in it kinda ruined it.

I enjoyed Mainspring, didn't love it, but Lake's City Imperishable books are awesome.

i bought leviathan, haven't read it yet but the concept sounds decent enough. I'm not sure what age audience it's aimed at though.

I just finished reading it. It's for kids, but it was enjoyable AND HOLY SHIT THERE'S AN AIRSHIP THAT IS ALSO A WHALE.

Don't be hating on Steampunk. It's not its fault that no one can write it decently.

I read Perdido Street Station a while back, I remember that being pretty damn good.

Ok, so this whole steampunk movement has me a tad confused. What, exactly, is steampunk? Does it have to do with the "futuristic" technology in an older time period? Clarification, please.

>> No.769646

>>769637
It's basically "supposed" to be set in a retro-futuristic Victorian setting where everything is powered by steam.

So yeah, future technology but more clockwork and steamy.

and the punk references a struggle or rebellion against government/kingdom and what not.

>> No.769647

>>769637
steam punk is a movement on etsy.com and hardly anywhere else.

The only thing I didn't like about it was the female scientist character (the twist you see coming from a mile away is that she's Darwin's daughter).

Despite this only being the first book in a series, she's already shaping up to be an insufferable bitch whose always right about everything.

Go watch Steamboy by Katsuhiro Otomo and that'll give you a good idea of what it is and should be.
