I'm Orthodox myself, but I'm curious if Protestants interpret this work religiously. I mean, the burden of confession is the central theme--do Protestants, who have private confession in prayer, feel that same burden, that same reluctance and fear to actually confess their sins? I'm not saying they don't, I'm just curious. Because confession for the Orthodox is a very difficult thing (even more than with Catholics, because there are no booths) to will oneself to do, even if it is ultimately rewarding. There is much temptation to hide things or to try to repaint them, but in the end you can't because you know it won't be valid if you do.
