No. Anything with John Green's name on it is pseudointellectual trash for hipsters.

psuedointellectual trash for hipster?

uhm, no.

It's young adult fiction.
It's for either teenagers or "adults" who read YA.

there's nothing intellectual about it. it panders and appeals to the emotions of teenagers.

If you're going to insult something, at least know what you're talking about.

i liked paper towns better

green writes with a charm that is appealing at first go round, but fades quickly into a creepy obsession with dorky young people interacting beyond their years. if i had a daughter, i would not suggest she read this book.

that being said i still have my signed copy.

Only saw the movie. I assume it's a faithful adaption. Here's my rendition of one of the characters, that writer the two kids are obsessed with.

"Generic writer personality, you never go out! And you really shouldn't drink so much! I can tell you're a tortured soul of some sort but you're also just such an asshole!"

You're both right. It's young adult fiction for kids to pretend they are smarter than they truly are. Have you read the passage about the girl musing on the existential quandary of having breakfast foods for dinner?

It's not a bad read but it's extremely straightforward and you can finish it in the amount the film takes. The film isn't 100% faithful but more entertaining.
