Behold! The "The" trilogy: successor of trilogies past, the champion of the elitist sentiments so prominent in our little community.

Damn, those covers are boring.

Where's 2666.

It doesn't have "the" in the title, and it doesn't match the quality of these works.

Fair enough. To make the image more eye-popping you should use the better cover of The Tunnel that isn't a dreary olive green. Also, this cover of The Recognitions, if not the other one.

If you're serious about making this the next meme trilogy, that is. :^)

The Recognition is a bloated first novel that shows its weakness as a first novel and Gaddis' inability to keep any leaflet of more than 100 pages mutually adhesive.

I have no idea what that second one is.

William Gass is a great author who waste 20+ years writing The Tunnel. It's not a masterpiece, it's an academic brick. I'd recommend his short stories and Omensetter over that garbage any day. It's just not a good book.

If this stupid 'meme trilogy' thing gets people to actually read Gaddis, Hawkes, and Gass, then I guess I'm for it. I liked the one with Bolaño and McElroy, but this looks just as good.

Anyone shitting on Hawkes is woefully uneducated, he is one of the most influential prose writers of the last 50 years. He was doing pomo shit way before old Tommy Pinecone was.

As for Gass, he is an amazing author, with some real meme potential. I mean he wrote a whole fucking book on the word blue.

I'd studied Hegel in college, read the Phenomenology all the way through once, and Self-Consciousness at least five times. That book is incredibly simple to understand in its own terms. It's incredibly convoluted, but it's enlightening if you focus your attention slowly on it. If it's too difficult for you to understand, you should probably give up on philosophy.

This isn't fucking reddit kid, we don't have accepted memes. Memes come about spontaneously, you think DFW came on here like 'Hey guys let me be a meme :)' and then we fucking discussed it? Jesus fucking Christ learn a little about memes before you embarrass yourself. Nobody of literary relevance cares about you, or your fucking "meme" trilogy. They're all "meme" books--there's no true sublimity to them; you hope they'll become a meme merely on the virtue of being a bit quirky. That's not how it fucking works around here, you think memes are made like that? Like hey guys approve my meme? Wow. Wow. Wow. I'm not one to send people to Reddit but you're acting like someone who hasn't even seen a real meme. You're a fucking amateur; you think people are gonna see your so called "meme" and think 'haha great meme from /lit/ today"? Abbasalutely wrong; they'll say "hey who invited Reddit today? You fucking clown?!" Is that what you think memes are about? Just fucking status symbols? Get yourself a fucking trip and trip on it, dick.
