or im just a homeless womanizing alcoholic, depending on how you look at it. but wait...that describes most of 4chan...

As a person I like him in a way because he was a softy really. The only thing he really loved was women and not just physically he wanted to love and be loved and he was a lay his heart open kind of guy. But his writing I can't get behind 100 percent. Yeah one of the first novels I read was Post Office and to this day it's one of my favorites. But then I read Ham on Rye and Women and it just kept going downhill. His shorts suck ass and his poetry can be amazing.

Though if you read the people who influenced him (John Fante and Celine) you realize how much better the two of them are and how much Bukowski jsut tries to mimmick them completely without really being too original himself.

>homeless womanizing alcoholic
>describes most of 4chan
Most of 4chan lives with their parents, has never touched a woman, and is too young to drink alcohol. So, no, it does not describe most of 4chan.

I think he's fun to read, but once you've read one of his books, you've read them all.

>> No.746569

I think he was a writer who couldn't write, and he's now loved by current writers who can't write.

So is there a right way and a wrong way to write? He's doing it wrong therefore he can't write no matter how many people love his work?

Good writing is just an opinion. Personally, I don't care for Bukowski, but I wouldn't say he doesn't know how to write just because I don't like him. All writers have their strengths and weaknesses. This guy's problem was story structure (among other things). But that doesn't mean there aren't other strengths that appeal to readers.
