Has there ever been a piece of literature capable of eliciting as much emotion in 10 seconds as Goya's "Saturn" does in 10 seconds of viewing it?

Visual art will always win this race because the visual bandwidth is so much larger than the auditory. It's a rare picture that takes more than 10 seconds to read, whereas literature and music generally barely begin in that time.

(I) Goya's saturn is trash, only plebs like it. It looks cartoonish, and if you get emotional looking at it, it's because you're autistic.

(II) Literature is not the same as visual art. Visual art is made to be engaged with in a short amount of time. Literature is meant to be engaged with over a longer amount of time, as you read it. Medium-specific qualities are important to individual art forms. It's stupid to judge painting and literature with the same criteria.

(III) Yes, actually. Many short poems and works of "flash fiction" do, and do a much better job. Hemingway's one-sentence short story-- "For sale: baby shoes, never worn"-- is a good example. You could also of course find very moving excerpts in longer novels that you could read within 10 seconds. But again, the beauty of literature isn't typically meant to be appreciated in a 10-second span, and also, that painting doesn't at all elicit the emotion that you claim it does.

It's an expression used about him by some art critic. It was a response to Francis Bacon's work being described as 'The Brutality of Fact'.
Since they were friends and contemporaries people always compared everything they did.

The awkward part is probably in reference in how he manages to focus on certain aspects of the models. It is not always the most charming portraits, but not something that can be considered a 'lie'.

Don't ban pls. it's art.
