When will memes be acknowledged as art by the art community?

I mean, most memes nowadays have more influence than the art community itself.

Shouldnt the art community embrace the memes for their own survival?

If you can't beat mememakers, better join them, right?

Or should it be the mememakers that should try to get into the art industry?

Oh I think I detect a meme!

You are referencing a meme in which a rapper called "viper" is seen on a picture with the text "kill yourself". Within this context you mean, OP needs to kill himself without actually saying it, but only referencing it.

Very clever, indeed you sneaky little memester.

>art community
Is that even really a thing anymore? I know there's art students in college. I know there's a ponzi scheme in the big galleries, but that mostly affects a tiny number of blue chip artists and a large number of hopeful does who get pumped up as a young artist and then dropped after first exposure. I know there's figure drawing classes full of wine swill in housewives all over America. But none of that sounds like a community.

Why "unironically" has come to mean "ironically"?

Is it because you cannot announce irony, ever, or it ceases to be irony?

tfw will be there, it's a narrative method of its own which captures the whole mindset of a subculture.

Spurdo will probably get a place too, it's a very fertile meme and it has a unique form of comedy, I think; the closest thing I can think of like it is SBaHJ.

Art in itself is a meme. Internet memes are isolated in themselves, but don't provide much insight on human nature. Think of internet memes as a "tweet" of the art world. Although it may seem relevant, they're too condensed and not valuable enough to actually transmit something of substance.

Eh, I think that overstates it. Memes (and most forms of media that are actually relevant nowadays - tweets, vines, instagram, youtube, etc) may have have been compressed into the smallest utterances that could be conceivably meaningful as a result of two centuries of capitalism and technology interacting with media, but what these atomic bits of communication lack in depth in any individual instance they make up for in being a part of a distributed, collaborative art project.

For example, the frog pictures alone have been altered so many fucking times that, taken together, they actually kinda do tell the story of what it's like to be a low, disgusting, excluded sorta person. It's just distributed story-telling (and if the stories memes tell are stupid, it's because the makers - which is everyone - are stupid.)

You got it backwards

Memes aren't art

Art is actually just a meme itself. At least in the Kantian sense. He says what makes art special is that it allows a "quickening" of the mind that puts one into this dimension of mental play where one can reflect on human elements. Memes pull this off no problem although more benign or specific, they evoke an emotion or moment completely directly.

I think this has been said but "art" is already a meme. Because of this hierarchy, it doesn't work the other way around.
