In seriousness:

1) how do I get an essay published in a respectable literary magazine if I've never been published before?

2) is learning esperanto useful to becoming a better/more mindful writer?

1. I think I'm fairly good but don't have many peers whose taste I'm confident in to get useful feedback. Also, assuming a piece I've written is already good, how do I get it read/noticed/published? Know someone who knows someone? Hope it gets seen after self-publishing on a place like Medium? Something else?
2. Why not?

you have to be a university student with a letter of recommendation from a professor in good standing with the editor, or a professor yourself.

Not really. There are plenty of technologies that evolved independently of engines, or could feasibly be driven by manpower in a world that didn't get the idea to make a steam engine.

>> No.7411920

>>7411910
That's not what that is at all.

>> No.7411930

without electricity or advanced mechanical devices there is no justification for calling it 'high tech'. that is what 'high tech' means.

>> No.7411949

>>7411930
Never said no advanced mechanical devices, they're simply not deiven by any sort of alternative source of energy.
I also said relatively high tech. Not in relation to us, simply more than has been previously the case in pre-engine periods. You don't need engines for a ton of really advanced processes.

Why does DFW write like he only has 20 punctuation marks he can use throughout a whole book? The last two short stories I read literally had two sentences in them each. I thought he was supposed to be good at prose.

Anyone know some books or short stories on absolute love? I'm talking about love that doesn't want anything in return, doesn't need to be non-sexual or of any specific orientation, just a relationship in which one or both of the parties involved wishes for the other's well being without any kind of harmful attachment.

Non-fiction is accepted but not preferred.

Then you will learn nothing, what a waste of time. Or possibly your teacher, someone older and one would assume trained, has thought about it longer and come to that conclusion. Rather than teening against everything that upsets the world view you started creating in your head as a child, think about what she says and try to understand it, I can see her point, maybe you can't yet. Doesn't make her right and she is wrong not to explain it fully to you if she hasn't. Nonetheless, she has a point.

I really can't tell if you're serious.

She wants the Washington Memorial removed because its too phallic and applauded ISIS for destroying the Temple of Bal in class.

She's already attempted (and failed) several times to start a campaign to rewrite most of the amendments in favor of barring free speech and other personal rights.

I learned Spanish at a fluent level by.
1. mastering the grammar - get a textbook
2. learning verbs/vocabulary for common words
3. I took two translations of a book, one English and one Spanish and read them side by side. I read the Spanish book out loud and used the correct pronunciation for each word. I wrote down every word that I didn't know an memorized them after I had a list of ten words. By the time that I finished the book I had made a great leap in understanding the language.
4. I went to the country and socialized until I had perfected my accent and grammar (Including slang, etc).

it took about 6 months in the country to be able to get through a conversation without struggling. 1 year to not even have to think about the language to communicate. After a couple years I had completely mastered the language.
