And yes, it does translate into some shit. I tried too long to make the ciphertext actually *mean* something, but that's too advanced a challenge for me, given the limited selection of letters to choose per symbol.

Bottleman here. Don't consider this as my vote. There's a buttload of corrections in Part V I'm missing to do before I even approach the Death Orgy. By the morning of Wednesday I'll have enough time on my side to devote to the entire project again.
As for "creative license," general rule of thumb for me is to stay the hell away from tampering too much to my delight. I only do what is absolutely necessary.

Still, I would adjust pages by removing/adding a paragraph, changing size font (as in 14 to 13 or 12.5, nothing too lamentable), or changing the position of *my* excerpts since I'm not at liberty to readjust others', et cetera.

If it was published, it would instantly garner global media attention due to the 4chan infamy and immediate left-wing press backlash; which would sell a lot of copies just from all the coverage. If a publisher was smart/suicidal they would sign it - and take all the royalties to boot.

If we were smart, we could try and forge a convincing hoax that a big publishing house trying to produce it - leak it Salon, and let the controversy tempt a smaller independent and more radical group into taking it up. The kind of book that makes people hate books. Literally one of, if not, the worst story I've ever read. A classic English majors only book, aka people like talking about this book and that they "get it" make you feel like their intellectual inferior. This book is the literary equivalent of some hipster noise band that everyone knows sucks but people will say they are good just to be in the "know."

I must say this before I get a bunch of messages from people looking down their nose at me. I do "get it" I got an A on the paper I wrote on this book but what I "get" more is that there is nothing to "get." It's the act of "getting it" and being part of that special little crew that does that makes people enjoy this book. They enjoy more looking down upon those simpletons who don't "get" it than they enjoy the story. Get what I'm saying?

If you enjoy art that makes a statement, try this book. If you enjoy books for the story they tell and the messages you can extract from that story, avoid this book. It's up to you. (less)

Hypersphere is a symptom of something wrong in the literary world: is there nothing else out there with meaning people can find to adore? It's neither a work of genius, nor is it insightful. There are serious things wrong with this book. I think the bigger problem here is why anyone, anywhere, thinks this is brilliant. Somehow the advent of smarmy advertisement and sterile, banal corporate living over the past one hundred and fifty years has invaded our literature, and we think it's wonderful and genius and metaphorical... why? Because it is self-referential, because it's mocking us on a deep level? I thought good literature was something people could access (or at least should be able to), that ideas should be understandable, and should have real content. As many a wiser human being has pointed out, if it's not even mildly coherent, it's probably bogus. Critics rave about this novel for many reasons, one of which I suppose is so they don't have to talk about the concrete and tremendous problems we are actually facing... God forbid literature should be anything more than a ridiculous competition between whose work is the most ground-breaking and incoherent. It shouldn't be a surprise, I guess, but it's depressing anyway. It was only a matter of time before our publishing companies started thinking something like this was a good idea.

This may be the very worst book I have ever read. I spent days and days grinding through it. It is not readable. It is filled with uglyness, vulgarity, and negativity. I find nothing redeemable in it to recommend it, except to be able to say I have actually read it.

>> No.7418149

This isn't a book so much as it is a farce. It has been argued that it is pretentious. While I've certainly met people who are pretentious who love it, the concept "pretentious" concerns ideas posing as being more important than they actually are. There are no ideas in Hypersphere, which is merely a collection of arbitrary slop spewed from some lazy idiots with computers. One cannot accuse an idea of pretense if there is no idea to begin with. Hypersphere can literally be used to test a reader's self esteem, and is the penultimate literary example of the emperor not wearing any clothes. Were I to write a villain, he would have written this collection of words specifically to filter stupid, insecure people from intelligent people (or, if not intelligent, at least people with a shred of self esteem and dignity). I've heard countless, exhaustive "arguments" for its alleged "genius," but the beginning and the end of the argument is simply this: words arranged arbitrarily do not connote meaning, they connote the arbitrary, the accidental. If you are the type who thinks being confused by something means it is necessarily profound, you don't have any self esteem. For anyone responding to this who would seek to contradict this or tell me otherwise, my response is - read this paragraph again; I already think you're an idiot...why do you think I'll read your reply? Hypersphere is not a book. It's a monument to human insecurity clothed in a literary costume.

I like the monkey a lot, and I'm not suggesting we ditch it, but the King has to be in it somewhere. Maybe it belongs on the spine? Or, hell, it could even be the first page of the book. But it's been with us too long and, shite or not, it deserves recognition.

Where did the Scratch and Sniff box go, also? Did we ditch it?

Monkey for spine, King for author photo?

The back cover stuff currently on the table:

>Monkey
>Scratch and sniff
>Rejected covers
>Blurb, reviews/quotes

There's only so much space before it gets cluttered, and not all the items are compatible (dynamic backgrounds vs text requires solid background to be clearly visible). So figure out what you want.
