There's at least one chapter like that, but I'm on the fence as to whether it's actually a denunciation or just some stoner's rationalization of his penchant for binges. As a former stoner myself, I incline towards the latter.

A lot of Hemingway defies expectation because of the spergs that laud him.

Even though he's one of my favorite novelists of all time, or at least one of the most poignant, so many people support his books as being macho-masculine when nothing could be further from the truth. The guy himself was manly as fark, but a lot of his books deal with romance and masculinity in different (more vulnerable) ways.

legend has it that western women put make up and all that stuff and waste money on shitloads of clothes and shoes and shit to look good and this supposedly tires them out and makes them loose sluts and all that nonsense while muslim women (and I use the term loosely) don't look like anything in their burqas but wear lingerie under that and suck your dick in privacy whenever you want without complaint.
it's the public/private contrast in islam.
the tiring out thing is complete bullshit though.
and muslim women are still muslim women.

Well the Norton version which I read has both Middle and Modern English printed on either side of the page which makes for a pretty interesting read.

As for interpretation of the text as a whole, the intro and critical essays at the end are excellent. Would recommend/10
