He tends to go on tangents at the start of his talks and fails to get to the actual point of the talk. He admits this himself, often there wasn't an overarching point.

So much this.

Zizek used to seem like a fool to me when I first started going to /lit/ but the more I read, the more intelligent and significant he seems.

This is probably one of his more coherent vids:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gw8LPn4irao

It covers several topics and is a short peer into his views.

Exactly this, if you're listneing to Zizek for straightforward arguments you're missing the point, go read him if you want that. His talks are useful for understanding his analytic approach in motion not for a rigorous application of that approach

>>7376976
This is why his books are much better, but his talks are always fun. He has a good lecture up if you're interested.

His two movies and the Zizek! movie are also a bit more focused

Where do you begin with Zizek's books?

Do you need to read Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit beforehand?

I'd say an Introduction to Lacan (as an introduction to him conversely) and the Sublime Object of Ideology especially the first third of the book.

There doesn't seem to be any easy introduction though, reading Hegal may help to a small degree but he's such a difficult thinker to grapple with that I may as well say you should read Zizek to understand him, its practically a back and forward.

>Introduction to Lacan
It's Looking Awry: Looking Awry: An Introduction to Jacques Lacan through Popular Culture, right?

I began Sublime Object recently since it seems like one of his more famous books.

What about First as a Tragedy, then as a Farce?

Thanks.

Incredibly insightful analysis of the medium of film (and through that mankind and contemporary times) through a psychoanalytic lens.

Odd comparison. I like Rob Angers videos, e.g. especially the one about Eyes Wide Shut (which is now removed), but his goals or tools are not in any way related to Zizeks.

It's written in such a way, that your soviet mother who at most has read only the Communist Manifesto, can read it.
