As plebeian as it may sound, I love it when art brings people together. Like when Everybody Hurts or Bittersweet Symphony starts playing in some cafe or whatever. Or when audiences in theathers or cinemas watch something that moves the whole crowd. Its like it brings people together for a while.

What literature has that same effect? I imagine Shakespeare and Greeks do the job. Anything else?

Henrik Ibsen and Victor Hugo. Or basically any author who became so famous that everyone talked about their work.

Though... well, all things considered, japanese light novels. You know, the shit on which lots of chinese cartoons are based. Those move masses. Masses of either manchildren or ugly girls who like to fantasize about faggots fucking each other, sure, but still masses.

OP part of the reason I love watching blockbusters high is the feeling of watching something anticipated with a room full of people all there for the same thing and ready to have a good time. Bonus points if it's a comedy

Only way to achieve this effect with literature now is book to movie adaptations to be completely honest family
