The cold war was a revolutionary French astronomer's wet dream.

I liked this book called Citizens by Simon Schama

Since youre asking makes me think youre not a massive history buff otherwise youd probably be aware of it already (don't take offense to that)

If I was wanting to learn about the french revolution I would probably find a first year university textbook on it and give that a go. It would be indepth enough whilst still remaining engaging to a newcomer. Once you have a basic overview of the french revolution Id probably recommend schama for a more contemporary view and soboul for a more marxist intepretation. Citizen by schama is pretty good.
Its been a while since I studied the french rev but theres loads of stuff on it

As for the other two I don't really know. Id still probably recommend a first year university textbook simply because its the level at which they know youre not an idiot but also the level before it gets hard and theres a lot of assumed knowledge.
