I do that OP, but it's for a specific reason. I have Spotify on my phone, and when I'm on the train I simply lose connection, and the music stops, but I have these big muffs which essentially mutes the outside world's noise, so I can read more quietly.

I wouldn't be surprised if other people did the same thing.
