>literally written 20 years ago, yet has a more interesting virtual world without the benefit of MMOs for inspiration
>Allusions to classic literature vs "le meme reference xD" and 80s pop culture
>RPO has the exact same twist regarding the identity of a main character.

Tell me again why Spielberg is adapting this pleb ass book instead of the obvious Patrician choice?

Glad to see other fans of this series. What an awesome tour de force it is.

I enjoyed RPO for what it was, but goddamn, this is the definitive near future VR sci-fi work, and it was written in 1996(!). Full of the exhilaration and wonder of the very early Internet.

City of Golden Shadow is one of my favorite books of all time. River of Blue Fire and Mountain of Black Glass are close seconds.

Sea of Silver Light is a bit of a disappointing conclusion for retconning and forcing some things (Azador=Jongleur clone, Olga is kind of meh, and the Other being the source of the comas instead of Evil Corp seemed like late revision).

All the world jumping was awesome and carried the series very well, but it began to feel a bit formulaic and drawn out in SoSL.

SoSL was really bread-and-butter workmanlike in tying everything up. It seemed like Tad was just going down a list and leaving nothing incomplete, but in a very standard best practices way.
