Anyone still reading?
Doubt anyone is formally following a schedule but here it is anyway.

(I was going to ask what the timefuck was going on at
>He’s had nothing to say to anyone about her. It’s not the gentlemanly reflex that made him edit, switch names, insert fantasies into the yarns he spun for Tantivy back in the ACHTUNG office,
somehow thinking Katje was being pointed as the source of all the encounters on his map, but now I see it's obviously just not referring to her at all)

That said,
>so much as the primitive fear of having a soul captured by a likeness of image or by a name. . . .
This board is def haunted by young Pynchon.

>Enzian knows that he is being used for his name. The name has some magic.
In addition to the flower it was introduced as earlier in the book, it turns out the Enzian was a German experimental rocket. Tingling follow-up on it found in the pynchonwiki:

>An interesting addendum is the Natter "a somewhat similar but larger weapon. It differed from Enzian in that it was designed to carry a human pilot who could take control after an almost vertical and automatically-controlled ascent." (134)
>The Natter rocket plane (a one shot plane that required the pilot to parachute back to Earth) was the last attempt the WWII German government made to create a rocket powered manned plane. The only test flight of the Natter was a disaster - the cockpit came off in mid ascent, killing the pilot. The Natter is mentioned just one page before the Enzian in Von Braun's "History of Rocketry and Space Travel," one of Pynchon's sources for Gravity's Rainbow.

Tangentially related:

I'm looking to get into Pynchon. I take it Gravity's Rainbow isn't the best starting point, so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for another work by Pynchon to be tackled before GR? I was thinking either The Crying Lot of 49 or V.

I think GR is a great starting point myself. It's where I began way back in highschool and it's what got me hooked on literature in general. It's tough but enthralling. Take the plunge with GR.
V is about as dense but nowhere near as immediately exciting.

if you wanna whet your appetite or maybe test your foot in the water because you don't know whether pynchon is for you try lot 49, imo lot 49 is a minor masterpiece

but if you think you'll be picking up gr anyhow I say just do it

Here

I'm a little in front of the schedule but still loving it. The orgy boat bits were amazing.

read crying of lot 49, then go straight to GR if you feel you're ready.

imo V isn't so great, and might burn you out on pynchon and make it hard to make it all the way through GR.

Idk, I preferred V. To col49 the first time and I read the latter first.

If we assume that he is dreaming, asking the question is tantamount to introducing its negative answer... Could be nothing.
