'The only way to communicate is to understand what it is like not to understand.' It is at that moment that you can make something understandable.

You never change things by fighting the existing reality.
To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.

Never forget that you are one of a kind. Never forget that if there weren't any need for you in all your uniqueness to be on this earth, you wouldn't be here in the first place. And never forget, no matter how overwhelming life's challenges and problems seem to be, that one person can make a difference in the world. In fact, it is always because of one person that all the changes that matter in the world come about. So be that one person.

When I am working on a problem, I never think about beauty........ but when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong.

There is an inexplicable attraction to being alone in its vast emptiness where earth and sky seem to meet and become one, Somehow, the isolation from human habitation brings us closer to the essence of our humanity.

You can become narrow-minded, literally, by only liking certain things, and disliking others. But you can become openminded, literally, by giving up your likes and dislikes and becoming interested in things.

then throw it on the back burner, go and get some inspiration. something new and exciting. Go out in the rain and write about how it feels on your skin.

If you hate your short for the dullness of it then shake it up, subvert your own expectations.

these arnt the ten fucking commandments, challenge them. let them provoke you to build your own habits that work for you.

I'll break all the rules I can swing a stick at BUT only if I know that it's worth it
I'll steal from others BUT only if I know that I can do better and take their ideas further.
I'll isolate myself BUT only when I need to write, if I'm looking for inspiration then I'll party with as many friends as possible.

Go out and prove to me that these prescriptions are wrong you negative cunt.

'pre-writing'?

do you mean planning, sketching and prose practice?

I know I find those and prompt writing helpfull for when I want to sit down and turn my hand to my own work.

Each to their own though.

Yes, especially outlining your works beforehand. Do you construct a plan prior to actual writing.

Nabokov wrote everything down on flashcards and built up his work from there.

Some people just plan then write from start to finish.

Think about how long your stamina is and what kind of state your drafting is.

For me, I write super poncy stuff in flurrys and then go back and add in dialogue and discription to flesh it out. Then on the third pass, I'll edit shit down.

The plan, for me, comes from a 5/6 line arc that I flesh out as I think more and more about the characters lives and shit. Letting them write the plot leaves me the space to write the prose.

What I do is drunk writing. Meaning that I drink several cans of beer as I write, putting down everything as it comes to mind in my drunken stupor. I don't even bother to check for spelling or grammar consistency, fuck that for the time being. Just let the words pour on the paper.
I leave what I've written alone for several days. Then (while sober) I read it. I make the necessary corrections, throw out what doesn't make sense or not fit in, add more to it. Then I leave it alone for another couple of days, then edit it again.
Done this several times while struck by severe writer's block and so far it has worked for me. Not sure if I can recommend it to others though.

As hard as I try to deconstruct this image I can't seem to make sense of it. Does the dolphin represent the intelligence you can acquire from under unlikely circumstances?

And what does the horse represent? Freedom of some sort?

Not that guy, but usually you will find that in art similar to what was posted the dolphin is often associated with a longing for death.

Said longing or wish for death ("death-wish") is rather persistent, but never strong enough to lead to an actual suicide.

It is an ironic pastiche of imagery and color taken from the Lisa Frank stationary popular in the 1990s, as well as a frank reminder that motivation, in our current status as a welfare state, is inherent in the individual and no longer a product of social and economical pressures.
