Chart thread, post what you've got.

Anyone got a chart for Plato, like a suggested reading order or something? I read The Apology and really enjoyed it so I think I'll read a bunch of his stuff.

Just read them in the traditional chronological order. Plato's concerns build and change over time so it's really weird to read a late dialogue, super complex and highfalutin, and then read an early period dialogue, which will seem like it's just an old dude getting mad at two brothers who won't stop shitposting. Or to read the Republic without reading the build-up to its grand concerns in the early and middle dialogues.

You really shouldn't read Plato all over the place or topically. Just treat him like an 800 page book.

Follow Thrasyllus' order, it's the one used in the Hackett Edition; read the Hackett intro and Stanford article article on Plato to have a good mindset when reading him. His works are intended to make you think about the topics further by yourself in short, the intro and article give you more detail on this.

just stop, the people who always type this are usually smug latin americans who read their magical realism in spanish to get the most out of it, but are mysteriously absent in russian lit threads, or French nationals who are disgusted at murricans for talking about their national literary heritage, but are strangely quiet in Yukio Mishima discussions.

I would guess the amount of true polyglots on this board are 1% at best.

Thats because the avg age on this board is like 23, and that is older than most of this board. It also means that they are in college being exposed to post-structuralist shitstains, which are quite lacking from the real world. When they hear feminists, they see that fat bitch in class with purple hair talking about the patriarchy, when it really is the female provost down the hall working her ass off to get funding for student programs.

They would be better off looking at their female family members and when they feel "I hope my sister gets that job" they are feeling pro-feminist feelings. That said, people who fight for wage and employment equality should really step back from racial and gender designations and call themselves Social or Labor Egalitarians. It would probably raise less ire
