I feel sorry for people that think like this. It's like they were given a toolbox to build anything they want -- a sculpture, an invention, etc. Anything they can think of.

Instead of that, they don't build anything and just kneel down and worship the toolbox.

I don't doubt that science is a noble pursuit, but when an AI in 50 years will have all the cognitive power to take up STEM fields, how will you celebrate human achievement but through art?

Give it 100 then doesnt change the fact that it'll happen sooner or later given the exponential rate that technology progresses.

AI might be doing a lot of the STEM work in 50 years but at some point in the chain you'll need natural language understanding. And if AI can do that it's going to write literature as well.

Only true of hardware and there's no proof that this will hold for the coming 50 years.

If hardware gets better, so does software.

Yes, but as I said there's no reason to think that this will go on for ever, and when it stops the progress of software will be closer to that of other fields.

And why should I do that?

>AI
Reminder that anyone who works with strong AI studies the philosophy of mind and language. You can't just go making things perilously close to minds without investigating the way our minds work and conceive of themselves.

You can either be an uncritical mind or a critical one and still perform scientific investigation on most things just fine, but being uncritical of yourself isn't something to be proud of (though neither is a lot of self-examination by people who aren't equipped for it).
