What exactly is wrong with cynicism? When did cynicism ever kill anybody, as opposed to deathly idealism and ideology? Why is "cynic" the go-to insult for seeing abstract problems?

Cynicism requires a keen sense of being able to question things, not just adopt a subjectively negative/ pessimistic attitude to something ( which I would also argue is different than apathy because apathy means you wouldn't even bother to consider it).
As for using it as an insult, it's not that big of a deal. Anybody who shouts cynic as an insult has been living in a world of idealism but anybody who uses the word cynic with pride has just lost the point of it. Don't get swayed so easily, I guess
