We're shifting over from the worship of deities to self-worship, and future generations are going to be a lot more polarized in terms of success as a result.
Being an atheist is a great idea if you legitimately are smarter and better than everybody else. The problem is that most of us aren't.

Atheism is the byproduct of a more knowledgeable and reasonable society. You know where people are the most superstitious? In areas where literacy rates are the lowest. Religion only impedes ethical progress.

It absolutely is, in the same way that Islam was the byproduct of Christianity, and that Christianity was the byproduct of Judaism.
Only the strongest, safest, healthiest cultures can beget such decadence.

The joys of poverty and meekness aren't necessarily synonymous with religious thought though.
Ironically, those supposedly Christian values were most likely an influence derived from the more secular schools of Greek philosophy, the ones that either separated the divine from personal interaction or flat out denied it.
