Not even sure if this is /lit/ or /g/ but...

I'm thinking of getting an eboo, what's the best one for the money in /lit/'s opinion? Right now Kindle Paperwhite seems to be the most recommended choice but I can't help but feel like there's a lot of shilling behind that consensus. Looking for something that's light, has a backlight and doesn't have a slow, clunky touchscreen interface.

1) buy books used, used stores are usually 4-7 equivalent bucks depending on where you live, thrift stores are often less than a dollar and you can find tons of classics there
2) it's super easy to steal from bookstores/libraries/universities by dropping books out of windows
3) it's even easier to get a library card
4) if you're going to be reading on a screen anyway you can use your phone or laptop or desktop with various free programs and download the books for free

i hope this has been helpful

Deathnote makes more sense now. It was a coma dream of a boy who was walking past a library when some scum threw a book out the window in order to steal it.

I have a Paperwhite

Conversion from .epub to .mobi is excellent
Conversion from .pdf to .mobi is unreadable due to poor formatting
It's useless for most non-fiction (anything with illustrations, tables, etc.)
Battery life is very good, lasts around a month for me
Size was smaller than I thought it would be when it arrived, but I got used to it pretty quickly. I find it more comfortable to hold than any printed book.

Even with the backlight, I still find it very difficult to read in the dark; my text comprehension drops considerably and my eyes get watery.

It's excellent if you're looking to pirate all your e-books; drag and paste onto USB.
