Pizzaman plagiarized off his own work too for True Detective lel come on.

I enjoyed it though. Simple and effective. Thoughts?

I got halfway through it on a day at the laundromat. Like you said, there are a lot of assets of the book recycled for use in True Detective, which is a shame because that dampens my opinion on a show I once considered very good.

Boring prose IMO. Pizza is trying way too hard to be McCarthy. But it's good for a book that was written in 3 weeks, I guess.

Pizzolato is a pure genre fiction shitter, too high on his own farts to realize he's a one-hit wonder. He's no craftsman. He throws paint on a wall and hopes it makes something pretty.

>I asked Nic if the [TV writer's room] experience was terrifying. After all, some people become writers because they’re too awkward, introverted, low-talking, unsightly, and non-communicative to deal with fellow humans. But watching Nic on the set, you realize he has two personas: the guy in the room, churning out pages, and the guy in the action, with cameramen and actors, more akin to a bandleader, or wizard, working levers that send puppets across the scrim. “I thought it was thrilling,” he told me. “I’m passionate about the medium. I like thinking on my feet. I prefer action to the periods of deliberation that often precede action. I really enjoy relationships with the actors because the actors are the only people who care about characters as much as I do.”

>one-hit wonder.
Agreed. True Detective s1 will always be the best thing he's ever done, especially considering how tragically terrible s2 is. And most of that isn't of his doing because its a television show. Its all thanks to Matt and Woody, and that Fukanaga guy.

Yes, is it not a bad sign that a man with 1 novel under his belt cant refrain from rehashing his own material?

Does anyone know some books like Season 2?

By which I mean, books about fuckups trying to fix the world and failing miserably, I guess.

Or books about lonely, broken people trying to find love.

I thought S2's story was genuinely heartbreaking, especially Paul's and Ray's.

I grew to like Nevermind, though. Especially that funky bass beat.

Rust in season 1 is a very Ellroy character
The gay cop in season 2 is exactly like a character in one of the LA quartet

thats not plagerism or recycling and its not bad you fucking pathetic fools

Raymond Chandler did this all the time with his novels using bits and pieces from the initial short stories he wrote for Black Mask and other pulp mags

I think there was a very similar character in The Big Nowhere. It's been a while since I read that, though.

Almost picked up Perfidia for my dad last year, but decided on an Elmore Leonard collection.

He got spotlighted in the New Yorker and he pretty much said he wrote the novel because his wife got pregnant and he wanted to scrape some cash together. He also admitted that he doesn't even really like the book.
