1984 will give you a better context by which to read A Clockwork Orange.

If you are reading for pleasure, read A Clockwork Orange.

If you are reading for self-improvement, read 1984.

What if you find self-improvement pleasurable...?

>> No.715145

It doesn't matter as long as you read them both. I loved 1984, but I also loved A Clockwork Orange, both for different reasons. You should probably read 1984. For what reason? I don't really know.

If you're up for taking on the challenge of reading an invented language (NADSAT), or if you just love reading books where the authors do things with language that can make it a primary focus of the book, I'd suggest A Clockwork Orange. PROTIP: If you think that you might find it challenging, just find the NADSAT translations on the Internet if they're not included in the back of your book, write them down, and keep it out next to you for reference when reading. I guarantee though if you do that, you'll just adapt to the language within the first few chapters and will be able to recall what words mean without having to go back and figure it out.

I'd say 1984, I think it's a better book, in fact I didn't think A Clockwork Orange was any good at all suprisingly.
