The wast swathes of humans "chooses" their ideology based on what their rulers want them to believe. That is why in every era, people believe what most people believe. Very few take the time to break out of it and select an ideology that is currently not in-vogue. Even fewer actively champions an idea currently viewed as passé, for example racism and sexism.

It makes a small contribution. It's the establishment that is pushing anti-racism and anti-sexism despite what deluded uni students think.
