I'm looking to read what would be considered the most essential, influential works of Eastern/non-Western literature. A broad category, but y'know: Chinese, Indian, Middle-Eastern, etc.

All of the reading lists I've found have been lackluster, though. Either they're too expansive or inconsistent. I tried searching the archive and wiki, but didn't find much. I've slowly compiled my own list over the past couple of weeks, but it's still a work in progress.

Well, you left Africa off your list, but Chinua Achebe's "Things Fall Apart" is pretty much Colonialism 101.

bump

Pali Canon
Mhagavad Gita

Read both of them unabridged then come back

Things Fall Apart is pretty neato and all but in terms of influence it's pretty far down the ladder. It's nowhere near the big boys like the Quran or the Analects.

One last bump.

The Sea Of Fertility was a fantastic project
