How far along are you? I've been wanting to read him since I first got wind of him on /lit/ about 2 months ago, and some anon said that it changes how he appreciates beauty, and how he now cries when listening to Brahms, shit like that.

Are you reading it full on, or a little at a time? I heard of someone reading it ~10 pages a day so that it took about a year, and they were sad when they were done and had no more Proust to read.

I prefer to go all the way and drop Kafka.

I've read him and used to make Proust threads on here occasionally. He's my all-time fave.

I'm generally depressed but thinking of Proust is one thing that will never lose its charm.

Im on the Guermantes Way. He always seems to relate beauty from his life to some kind of artistic work like a painting or music peace.

Reading it at a casual pace but might finish it within a year because its been a volume a month so far. I don't know how you can be said when you finish it because it can only be better on a second read. you could probably reread Swann's way alone over and over and not get tired of his prose

I found this when poking around about Proust, and I think I may pick it up for when I start reading him:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/0500238545/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=16FLMW98XYM3Z&coliid=I38VK3A2PTJC2E

How significant are the connections with art? Do you think the book I linked could be worthwhile? I remember reading Au Rebours by Huysmans and googling a bunch of paintings, literature, and flowers to get an idea of what Huysmans was talking about; it was exhausting, and I imagine a guide would be useful for something similar, like Proust (if that is after all the case).

Scott Moncrieffs English translation is generally considered to be one of, if not the greatest English translation of all time.
