Writers can write however they want. It's stupid to expect writers to fall in line with "movements" that critics make up. There are countless writers working right now doing all kinds of different things. It may be tempting and fun to name the age, but it willfully ignores the incredible complexity and variance of the reality.

Also, if we do live in an age of minimalism, it's not because we've progressed from maximalism and have realized it's silly. It's simply fashion, like bellbottoms or leisure suits. Not an evolution, just a change.
