Christianity has too many motes of truth to it to be completely shrugged so easy. That's why you're having a hard time. Instead, I recommend you read the three "Case for" books by Lee Stroble: "Case for Christ/Creator/Faith."

I find secular humanism so much more rewarding than atheism, myself. I get along with atheists, as long as they're not douches, and I can get along with Christians, as long as they too are not douches. Both tend to have an equal per-capita doucheiness.
If you're not familiar, secular humanism embraces the idea of ethics and morality from the other end of the Christians - man created God (so to speak - God exists as a man-made concept) and thus also created morality through the creation of God (and other religions, etc). Toss out the parts that were thrown in for ignorance or oppression, and the Ten Commandments pretty much boil down to treating other people with respect.
