The thrill of reading itself. Then the internet came and depression---long periods of isolation, self-loathing, drugs, you know, coming to terms with the existential, 'the human condition', etc. The short of it is, I no longer have an attention span.

y've trascended conventional notions of time and evry object that grabs your attention is a bit or a second itself

I was inspired to read when I discovered that it simultaneously caused my teachers to overlook my inattentive behavior while giving me something more interesting than school to focus on.

My dad was a smart guy and appeared to read a lot. Now I'm much better read than him but I'm glad he started me down that path.

I was 16 when I stumbled on The Demons by Dostoyevsky while snooping through my father's stuff.
It was summer and I had nothing better to do, so I read it. I had no idea literature could be so wonderful and thought-provoking. The Demons is a monstrous book, full of strange, feverish characters who commit atrocious acts. I was going trough a rebellious phase, so loved it.
A year later, I had read all of Dostoyevsky's books.

I used to browse /lit/ for fun and didn't read until I saw stoicism mentioned in some philosophy threads.

It sounded pretty cool so I ordered Discourses and Meditations. Thank you /lit/ for inspiring me.
