All day the stars watch from long ago
my mother said I am going now
when you are alone you will be all right
whether or not you know you will know
look at the old house in the dawn rain
all the flowers are forms of water
the sun reminds them through a white cloud
touches the patchwork spread on the hill
the washed colors of the afterlife
that lived there long before you were born
see how they wake without a question
even though the whole world is burning

aster, 1916

By William Butler Yeats
I have met them at close of day
Coming with vivid faces
From counter or desk among grey
Eighteenth-century houses.
I have passed with a nod of the head
Or polite meaningless words,
Or have lingered awhile and said
Polite meaningless words,
And thought before I had done
Of a mocking tale or a gibe
To please a companion
Around the fire at the club,
Being certain that they and I
But lived where motley is worn:
All changed, changed utterly:
A terrible beauty is born.

That woman's days were spent
In ignorant good-will,
Her nights in argument
Until her voice grew shrill.
What voice more sweet than hers
When, young and beautiful,
She rode to harriers?
This man had kept a school
And rode our wingèd horse;
This other his helper and friend
Was coming into his force;
He might have won fame in the end,
So sensitive his nature seemed,
So daring and sweet his thought.
This other man I had dreamed
A drunken, vainglorious lout.
He had done most bitter wrong
To some who are near my heart,
Yet I number him in the song;
He, too, has resigned his part
In the casual comedy;
He, too, has been changed in his turn,
Transformed utterly:
A terrible beauty is born.

Hearts with one purpose alone
Through summer and winter seem
Enchanted to a stone
To trouble the living stream.
The horse that comes from the road,
The rider, the birds that range
From cloud to tumbling cloud,
Minute by minute they change;
A shadow of cloud on the stream
Changes minute by minute;
A horse-hoof slides on the brim,
And a horse plashes within it;
The long-legged moor-hens dive,
And hens to moor-cocks call;
Minute by minute they live:
The stone's in the midst of all.

Too long a sacrifice
Can make a stone of the heart.
O when may it suffice?
That is Heaven's part, our part
To murmur name upon name,
As a mother names her child
When sleep at last has come
On limbs that had run wild.
What is it but nightfall?
No, no, not night but death;
Was it needless death after all?
For England may keep faith
For all that is done and said.
We know their dream; enough
To know they dreamed and are dead;
And what if excess of love
Bewildered them till they died?
I write it out in a verse—
MacDonagh and MacBride
And Connolly and Pearse
Now and in time to be,
Wherever green is worn,
Are changed, changed utterly:
A terrible beauty is born.

Do you mean Smashed? Which offers a retrospective loaded with some praise but mostly lukewarm reception and critical of his weaknesses that ends with

" That is why he is so easy to love, especially for novice readers with little experience of the genuine challenges of poetry; and why, for more demanding readers, he remains so hard to admire."

He is also mostly ignored by academia where finding any praise of him is near impossible.

Well, that is extremely debatable.

Undoubtedly, she has a great grasp of cadence, rhythm and sounds, but her themes are the most utter childish bullshit ever:
>Baaaw, daaaddyy
>Baaaaw, wooomeeeen
>Baaaaaw, meeeeen
>Baaaaw, meeeeee
>Meeeee
>MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Again, her poetry itself is *not* bad, but it has spawned sixty fucking years of wrongly-understood feminism ("I'm a woman, Imma cry but do nothing against stereotypes") that taints any media that it touches. And by feminism in this case I mean poetry.

It is fucking disgusting to see that most of what women write nowadays is, again, mostly, self-revolving sensibleries and dribble.

The style is mediocre at best.
No rhythm,
no rhethoric figures,
no nothing.

His poetry is an excuse, a way of venting off how shitty his life was. People admire him because they secretely don't want to be like him but envy his flair and the aura he's garnered.

He was a post-modern poet, and therefore, FUCCCCCCCKING SHIT. At least Ginsberg was entertaining.

From Death and Fame (keep in mind he wrote this when he was 70), this is what 'young boys met naked recently in bed' would apparently say at his funeral:

"I studied his poetry class, 17 year old kid, ran some errands to his walk up flat,
seduced me didn't want to, made me come, went home, never saw him again never wanted to"

In a Crimson article titled "Politics, Pederasty and Consciousness”, Ginsberg said: “As I get older, having very specialised sexual tastes, it gets harder to make out… I like young boys. Why?… I’d have more chance at making out with younger guys if I were younger, dewier, dewy-limbed.”

He was also once quoted as saying "I'm a member of NAMBLA because I love boys too– everybody does, who has a little humanity"

there's also been a lot of young teens who claim he groped them at readings, which seems pretty believable.

Here's a poem called "Surprise Mind"

"How lucky we are to have windows!

Glass is transparent!

I saw that boy in the red bathingsuit

walk down the street."

And of course there is White Shroud Collection and the vile poem he wrote for NAMBLA, but yeah, go ahead and defend a guy who wrote poems about his asshole. (See Sphincter and Please Master)

"B-but muh edgy beatnik poet!!!!!"

Those posthumous collections have been heavily edited and changed from what Bukowski wrote. Not that his real poems are the greatest, but they're at least better than the edited ones.
