Is Eaters of the Dead as enjoyable as 13th Warrior?
I really liked that movie

Also, how are the other Crichton books?
Is he a good writer?

I haven't read anything by him yet, but some of the movies that came out of his books are entertaining

I liked Jurassic Park for what it was.
The books are engrossing, but the prose is nothing to get excited about. If you need something to read on an airplane you could do a lot worse, and I don't mean that as a slight. I'd say he's on the same tier as Mark Bowden, but fiction.
