Can /lit/ recommend me some books where the protagonist does not "belong" in their environment for lack of a better term? For example American Psycho and A Confederacy of Dunces would be books I consider in that category.

Confessions of a Mask is pretty great. It's not too long, fairly easy to read, very well written and gets you meme-points for reading a meme-author.
