Sup /lit/erati, any linguists in the house?

I need help parsing this sentence: I ran from home.

What does the "from home" prepositional phrase modify? Does it hang from just the verb or the sentence as a whole?

How about this sentence: I started by running from home.

>> No.703740

'from home' modifies the verb phrase 'ran' and 'from' is a Prep phrase, home is the object of the preposition 'home.'
