Youtube acts as a sorter. Unattractive people on youtube don't get popular, because people like to watch attractive people, so they don't get views and subs, so they're harder to find. The easier somebody is the find, the more likely you are to watch them. Recursive process.

When it comes to more complex art, it requires more understanding to enjoy it. So when we say that all that matters if whether or not you enjoy something, this leads to people going into more complex art not understanding it- and by extension, not enjoying it. And because they believe that enjoyment is all that matters, they never put forth the effort to understand it even when there's a chance that they would enjoy it far more than more simple art if they just studied it a bit harder. This is the problem I see with saying 'it's all subjective, all that matters is if you like it or not'.

Please tell me what is good about reading literature. Have you ever met a person who you thought was made better by reading literature? Aren't the people on this board, the literature board, just as petty as the people on every other board, and a little bit more pretentious as well?

I've asked this question on this board a few times and nobody has even attempted to give a substantial answer.

>Have you ever met a person who you thought was made better by reading literature?
Dozens of people. Some are close friends and some I've lost touch with. But yeah.
Reading in general is a very apt exercise for introspection. Sometimes reading literary fiction is the means to an end (knowledge, vicarious feeling, sublime poetry, etc.), and sometimes it opens up queries and sets the pace for your own thoughts. It opens up the search for other people's philosophies.
Submitting oneself to this process kind of sets your mind in a clear motion. You learn how to express yourself better. It's just reflection is good for you and keeps a healthy imagination.

Or not. Maybe it's just the opposite. It mostly depends on what was already inside each person, which is why it's not like only reading can make you a cool knowledgeable person, or good, or smart. For example, I used to be even more conceited, pretentious and petulant and scorned others constantly when I was younger, but only did it to people I didn't especially cared for. Reading has changed my views a lot, it's made especially humbler and respectful of other people's minds even if they're not closed to me in any of their ways.
The people on this board are effectively on par of those on their boards, but I get the feeling they often practice the opposite and provide pretty good and honest conversation.

The problem is that there's a lot of shitposting. If one of those so-called patricians from /tv/, those who really haven't read Don Quixote nor Infinite Just, not even C&P, think themselves patrician from their views and exposition to their means of interest (3-hour films)... imagine what happens to a c/lit/... Do you know how long it takes to read a fucking book? They are drilled more often into this elitist loudmouthing crap imo.
