Hey /lit/

Can any of you share some of your favourite fantasy or sci-fi series/authors with me? I just got an ebook reader and I'm looking to fill it up. I'm open to suggestions of all kinds, so fire away!

Inb4 shitstorm.

GRRM is the best of the best. But you clearly already know that.

Patrick Rothfuss's The Name of the Wind was quite a good read, but there's only one novel written in the series so far so we don't know how it'll turn out when it's complete.

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time is very popular but he stretches out the story with filler material in the later books.

Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy (The Assassin's Apprentice series) is another great classic.

Lord of the Rings of course.

I don't agree with everything in this list, but it mentions most of the major series that are worth looking into.

Disappointed to see that David Eddings didn't make it into the list. I'd say he's at least okay-tier, considering that the Belgariad has some of the best character growth/development of any book series I've ever read.

Jack Vance, Tolkien, Ted Sturgeon, Larry Niven, Jack Brunner, Roger Zelazny, Alfred Bester

Discworld series?

i'd recommend Steven Erikson.
its hard to get into but it's a really good story.

What kind of ebook reader did you get?

Agreed. I'm thinking maybe I should add a YA Tier to that image for some of the fantasy series that I loved as a kid (I'd move Earthsea there as well).

China Mieville.

Perdido Street Station is the best piece of fantasy I've read in 20 years.

The City and the City is just one of the straight-up best books I've ever read, in any genre.
