In some way I think that all debate is philosophical in nature, as it seeks to get to the true of the matter at hand. In that way 90% of the threads on 4chan could fall under the heading of philosophy: philosophy of /lit/ philosophy of /sci/ etc. All your bases are belong to us.

New things in philosophy are pretty much dead. The application of existing philosophy to your lives isn't.

>> No.7003330

Yeah, because science has totes surpassed philosophy in moral, political and social theory.

There is a certain sense in which philosophy is dead. Metaphysics is dead. The idea of 'philosophical systems' is dead. But the fact remains that there are whole subjects, pressing, important subjects, that can only be approached abstractly: morality, politics, culture, the arts. Some people try to make these subjects scientific but they're really just doing philosophy and calling it science. Take political science for instance. Sure it has "science" in the name, but if you actually look at any of its literature, you realize very quickly that it's a sub-field of philosophy.

Well what pressing questions regarding morality, politics, culture and the arts are there? Some questions are just asked and they can't have answers.
I agree with you about "political science" it is more a philosophy [Poly-phil] but there are plenty of political ideals out there. What questions but how they'll fair when implemented remain?
