I'm looking for a good history of Spain, preferably one that is well-known enough to have an epub version. Anybody able to help?

Pic not really related

If you're after things mediaeval, J.F. O'Callaghan is hands-down the best single volume treatment in English.

600-some pages of solid narrative history, from the fifth to the fifteenth century. Content-wise, it's decidedly weighted toward the Christian 'Spains' from the elventh century on, but it's coverage of Visigothic period and Islamic polities (proportionally less, but still in excess of 150 pages) is judicious and very well presented.

Can provide al-Andalus/Islamic North Africa rec's, if there's interest.

I'm in the process of reading Carl Sauer's The Early Spanish Main, focuses on Spanish Colonies in the Caribbean from 1492~1530
not exactly what you're looking for but it's a good read and

I certainly am interested. If you have anything that covers early Post-Roman Spain, that would also be appreciated.

I do plan on delving into that era, but first I want a good basis of knowledge regarding what got them to that point.

An interesting thing: I read Exequemlin recently, a first-hand account of 17th century Caribbean piracy, and the translator/historian who wrote the introduction suggested that Spain's success in their colonial efforts may actually have been what led to the fall of their empire. He posited that the mass influx of gold from overseas caused the industry in the country itself to slacken, weakening the country as a whole when the other powers caught up in their imperial game.

Say, I don't suppose you'd know where to find an epub of that?
