His worst book.

Go for Martian Chronicles if you are on a Bradbury kick,

I found it rather disappointing. But maybe that was because the theme of looming dystopia just bores me out of my mind.
It always ends on a "muh freedom" note, without any expansion on the human condition.

The problem with this book is that it's not even close to be real, unlike 1984 which does actually happens in north Korea.

It's actually even ironic because i have read that book on kindle.

In my town, people in public are glued to their phones. about 80% I see walking around jus on their smartphone texting or browsing, social media, listening to music, watching netflix etc. Entertainment all the time, no need to read books. Some aspects of the book ring true in today's society. But I dont see why people get pissed off even if they disagree with the previous statement. It's a sciece fiction dystopia, it is exaggerated for effect.

I certainly enjoyed it. Is it really obvious and heavy-handed in what it's trying to convey? Sure, but that doesn't make it a bad message or make the book itself less enjoyable to read.

I love dystopias though, so I'm pretty biased.

I think it's more a simplification, rather than an exaggeration.

I mean, let's be honest. Reading the classic dystopian books, we inherently imagine, with quite some ease, "What would I do?".
And what do we think about when facing current conditions? "Waddaya gonna do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯"

Yeah, I feel like allot of the premises were wasted on the format. Especially Clarisse.

Clarrise is Tumblr.

That being said, I liked the book. It's no Martian Chronicles, but it's a 6/10

I'm drunk to, faggot.
Took me three tries to spell her name right.

But seriously. I feel like he wasted allot of premises due to lack of ideas as to what to do with them.
There was not a single strong character in that book, apart from maybe Beatty, who I felt was the most intelligent person in the novel.

Yeah I agree. It doesn't help that the novel is really just an amalgamation of short stories (actually). Beatty was the only memorable character and was certainly the most intelligent, although I think that was some of the point.

I despised Clarisse but also I think that's a little unfair to Bradbury. How was he to know that being a pseudo-enlightened quirky tumblrite would be an obnoxious fad and that characters that mimick these straights would trigger knee-jerk disgust? Still, couldn't get past it.

Overall, like you said: good premise, poor execution. He just stitched together some short stories
