it does include either/or.

right now I'm working through introductory journal entries and letters, so I haven't got to the meat of the book yet. I started with the Greeks and have read wide and varied philosophers over the years (some Nietzsche, Kant, Hegel, etc.). also just finished reading A History of Western Philosophy, which involved also a lot of supplemental online material, so I'm no expert, but def not going in blind.

I saw that my friend had Essential Kierkegaard when I was at his house and couldn't pass up borrowing it. I'm no philosophy major, so my approach to what philosophers I read is usually a matter of when I come across them, or if I have a particular hard-on for this or that thinker at a given time.

e-readers definitely. When I first got my kindle it had a huge effect on how much I read, due mostly to the convenience of having all my books with me wherever I go (getting into the habit of always reading for 5-10 minutes when waiting for something is the best) but also having access to pretty much everything in whatever edition you want is great. If you like Hawkes and Barth (and have already done Lime Twig, Lost in the Funhouse, and Goat Boy), you might like Jeffrey Eugenides, especially Middlesex, or Omensetter's Luck by Gass. Also, The Last Samurai, by Helen DeWitt, is good in a "Curious Incident of the Dog" vein.
For snappy postmodern bliss, though, Calvino is my main man. For longer works, Eco and Kundera. Pretty standard around here.
