Just a post for all the non-STEM majors. It's time to stop feeling like shit about your own passions and interests.

> Only 27 percent of college grads have a job related to their major. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonkblog/wp/2013/05/20/only-27-percent-of-college-grads-have-a-job-related-to-their-major/

> The majority of contemporary world leaders studied a non-STEM degree, we're literally running the world

http://www.businessinsider.com/what-the-worlds-leaders-studied-2013-12?IR=T

> STEM majors do not enjoy an employment advantage.

http://chronicle.com/article/The-STEM-Crisis-Reality-or/142879/

Getting an education is more than just a job-training aimed at a specific skill set. This doesn't even apply for a lot of STEM-majors (math, biology, etc). It about developing a certain set of critical analytical skills, a methodology to approach the difficult questions we face as a society. STEM-majors do no posses a monopoly, or even a majority of the skills needed to deal with these questions.

It seems to be more that it realized it fucked up. Also note how the cat scratches at the floor, as if trying to dig to bury the poop (as in a litter box as it's presumably trained to do). It's basically like "oh fuck, son, that's not supposed to be there."

Would you want your pearly white fur get smudged in shit. Cats are very neurotic about cleanliness. My cat had a dingleberry hanging by her tail once that sent her into a frenzy trying to get it off.

Funny how the cat in the webm tries to hide the poop even when there's no sand to do it.

if you're studying something in the humanities for job prospects and therefore feel shitty about not having job prospects created by your degree then you're studying for the wrong reasons anyway. That meme argument against the humanities was never relevant.

One of my coworkers is a compsci major, and he refuses to believe that you still have to make yourself stand out of the crowd even with your STEM degree.

I was arguing that because you still have to be talented or have to stand out, it ends up being no different than my own major (which is polysci). Plus the unemployment rate for non-STEM fields is only slightly higher, its like 4.4 for computer science and 5.2 for political science.

Our boss was in on the conversation, and he agreed with me, but all the STEM student had to say was "Yeah well I disagree, I still think its easier for us to find jobs" lol.

He's in for a rude awakening after graduation. Your degree does not mean shit. Its your personal goals, aspirations, experiences and accomplishments that matter.

I'm seeing an increasing number of high level positions for numerous jobs that say something like:

Education minimum: Must hold a bachelor's degree - any field.
Experience: Must have at least three years experience in a similar position.

damn, thats a lot of seriously naive people.

You have to build a compelling resume rather than just have a degree.

I work with someone very similar, who is a computer science student too.

He was bragging about how technology is going to put millions of people out of a job, and how uber was the start of it, and how he was going to be just fine because he is going to get a comp sci degree.

>mfw he has done no extra projects, no apps; nothing that makes him stand out
>mfw he was legitimately surprised when I told that millions of people losing their jobs would affect him too
>what is economics

STEM majors man.
Of course there are brilliant STEM students, but there is a clear difference between a STEM student who wants an easy job and a STEM student that is passionate about their study. The latter would be the type that might go on to study computer science in grad school, for example, and thats respectable.

This is pretty much it.
You look around the world and you see how technology has changed us. I mean the fact that we're discussing this over the internet right now is compelling enough evidence to make STEM seem like the ultimate path to take. Unfortunately it is not that simple. Personal growth is all that matters, especially at the undergraduate level, but also beyond in terms of having a successful career.
