Wouldn't your time be better spent reading an actual economics textbook?

>> No.6910422

Seeing as I already study economics at university, no.

I enjoy Murray's writing and what the framers were thinking when writing the constitution interests me greatly.

>> No.6910424

So when both books turn out to be rampant propaganda, what will your thoughts be?

>> No.6910472 [DELETED]

>>6910424

Well, Murray has a penchant for citation and dependable facts, and insofar as his other works go hold up this is true.

Skousen yeah, I can't really argue that. But my seemingly liberal professor lauded it as a book of "true intent", so I'll have to discern if there's any seedy revisionism.

I live Revolution-era American history, so I'll read anything pertaining to that era. What do you read, anon?

>> No.6910484

>>6910472
I've read some really bad propaganda books about american history from a libertarian viewpoint. Most recent was something like "How Capitalism Saved America" (can't remember if that was the name or not).

Even the economics starter kit that I read from guys like Sowell and Hazlett has me suspicious.

I found Sowell's "Basic Economics" wasn't too endowed with Austrian thought-- it was just that: basic economics.

I think it's all stuff worth knowing, and it goes without saying that not many people are as familiar with it as they should be, but even Basic Economics SEEMED to espouse the "no government is good government" philosophy, and the actual data from the US, EU, and other environments rarely supports that (or even less strong variants of that claim).

The U.S. has never been a libertarian country. That's the most laughable part of the whole libertarian schtick. The Framers weren't worried about government overreach in general; they were only worried about the federal government. States could have an official religion, for fuck's sake.

Most contemporary Americans make no distinction among the state and federal governments, however.

Besides, does Jowwet provide all of his works in one volume? And for the price of 1 penguin normie book?

>> No.6910832

Benjamin Jowett was a 19th century English academic, notable for his work on theology and his translation of various Greek philosophers ("what I don't know isn't knowledge"). I believe what anon is saying is that Penguin has simply used a public domain translation which you could easily find online for free, and which is outdated.

>> No.6910903

Didn't buy penguin. Bought a random house, says it contains all of Aristotle's main works: Physics, metaphysics, politics etc. Plus some extra lesser known works. I'm not too worried about the translation, since most online reviews only complain about it sounding too "archaic" or the like.

Also it costs 16$, which is the same amount for 1 of the books on its own (by penguin) so that's a plus.

You can send it to as many people as you'd like, so there's no limit as long as you keep creating fake emails or you wait a couple weeks. The codes they send you aren't linked to a specific email address, so they can be used with just one account. Buy as much as you want.
