gnosticism was suppressed by the early church because its emphasis on a personal relationship with divine through visions and shit threatened the burgeoning ecclesiastical power struggle. you can't have an authority on god if you're just giving it away

that said gnosticism is p based but reeks of life-denying proto-autism, where because bad things happen in the world matter becomes intrinsically evil (as opposed to the objective medium through which morality plays out).
