I do this as well.

Does anyone know any techniques to stop doing this and focus on the book?

If you don't like what you're reading just don't read it, the same goes if you're tired
If the problem of focus persists, I'm afraid that you may have adhd. Behavioral therapy is usually the first try to fix it, and if it can't be done, talk to a psychiatrist.

If it's genuinely adhd (which is extremely over-diagnosed) drugs may be the only solution. I suggest trying vipassana or zen meditation.

Come on guys, If you just keep on reading you'll get past that threshold and become engrossed in the story. Come on.

this but 4chan instead of vidya. I stopped playing vidya because at least when you're on 4chan or the internet it feels like authentic and honest procrastinatino. I'm inbetween tasks. Vidya is like admitting that I've failed (even though the interent has ruined me more tha anything(

This happens to me too :/
The only way I can combat it is by imagining everything happening in the book visually like some sort of movie, that plays in my head.
As a consequence my reading speed is total shit though(around 3mpp).
