I lost all respect for him as a writer when a fan tweeted him complaining about using the word retarded in one of his novels. He's disingenuous and repackages the same formulas found in shitty YA fantasy and dystopia, but gets praised for bringing "realism" back to YA fiction by disposing of flashiness like vampires, princesses and prophecies.

I went to a prestigious university in the Boston area and everyone in my class had either done a demanding IB program or taken absolutely as many AP exams as they could and averaged better than 4.5. If you aspire to go to a competitive university in the United States a long AP record is the second best way after GPA to show the admission office that you know how to perform in a classroom setting. Believe it or not they aren't gonna be impressed with your essay about how standardized tests are run by the Jews and that's why you didn't take any.

I was also personal friends with an admissions officer from a nearby university who told me the same. They can't go around vetting the rigour of every high school in America, but they can get an idea of how serious you are by comparing you to other kids who took the same AP exams.

If you high school allows it anyone who wants to go to a prestigious university should take 8 AP exams and score mostly 5s.
