What are you writing with?

Pen or pencil on paper? What brands do you use? Or do you type everything? What software do you use?

FocusWriter and Y writer are pretty gud. I didn't like scrivener too much going on.

Honestly, do I even need something else? I make a new doc for every new idea so it's easier to keep in check and so forth so it's not like I need a program to arrange everything for me.

Poetry on physical paper, prose mostly on generic word processors like open office and word. I am not a professional writer, though

I think this is a good system.

It's a wooden pen holder from India with a hollowed out 95ml bottle of listerine, now full of drawing ink.

Then I write and draw with a Pentel DX mechanical pencil. The cigarette tin just holds spare leads.

The lower storage compartment of the pen holder contains Cotman watercolour brushes.

Notepad++ with the Blackboard theme, most of its toolbars hidden, and font changed from the machine text default.

It's fast, it remembers shit even if I close the program without saving (or saving at all) as long as I don't actively close the tab, and lets me work with multiple files with tabs.

Wish I could get into yWriter and Scrivener better. Seems like they'd be perfect for organizing a big project but I can't get used to them.

Scrivener is over the top for me. FocusWriter is still my overall favorite though. I like your Notepad++ idea but after having used it solely for programming I can't imagine I'd be able to keep my mind in the proper creative state.

Writing software specifically marketed towards book writing seems a bit superfluous but it used because it helps to focus you as the writer using various layout techniques and tools.

I'm similar, except I use Sublime Text 3.

Set word wrap to 80, install a word counter at the bottom, and good to go.

This, writing poetry on normal paper, or drawing since the feather bends a bit and it's quite nice for any sort of skizzing and such.

I'd like to see a program that works as nicely and simply as this, but isn't a programming text editor to start with.

I'm using Write! at the moment, and it's not bad. I just wish there was a dark or inverted theme for it. I just want tabs, but also a minimalist or distraction-free GUI, and some customization.

Notepad++ is as close as I can get, but I also want to use it for program writing.

>Notepadd++ is cloase as I can get

but Sublime Text is already dark/inverted theme, minimalist and offers customization.

I'm not sure that I understand the need for a nonprogramming text editor. They all edit text, just because N++ and ST3 let you edit HTML, C#, and a million other things doesn't make them any less effective at editing text.

Mostly so I can do my story writing and brainstorming in a program that I don't have to change layout and preferences in for any work with programming or editing ini/cfg files.

Writing a scene in Consolas feels really weird.

Notepad.
Notepad++ if I need to edit lines.
