Is literature an effeminate hobby? I'm finding it hard to hang around my friends, who are all into sports and hunting, because I prefer reading.

>> No.6841441

Effeminate? Why do you post one of the most sissy authors too. hemingway wussed out killed himself, was an ambulance driver in one war then journalist in the next.

If you're looking for typical bros to be into lit you're not going to find any, if you want to find girls who are into lit you'll find even less unless you're at a top college. Common sense amigo. How many guys who played football in highschool are gonna be reading finnegans wake or anyone period.

>> No.6841460

Of course it is. Even Hemingway and Mishima, the undisputed masculine masters of lit, would be considered AT MOST somewhat more masculine than the average non-lit man. And they both killed themselves.

If you want to be masculine, lift weights and hunt and shit. Reading won't get you there.

>> No.6841479

What's stopping you to find another more "masculine" hobby?

Go hunting and write some story about your hunting trip.... It doesn't even need to be true.

Does it matter? 'Effeminate' is just a label we put on something. Literature/reading isn't inherently effeminate or masculine.

The literary man will of course not give in to the common notion what constitutes masculinity, and will in turn spend a shit ton of time redefining masculinity in a way that includes him, or makes the whole category a bit more accessible

Fuck no. Let's list manly activities:

-growing a beard
-being hairy in general
-using a straight razor
-drinking black coffee
-lifting for strength

Anything else, bros?

Right, because you're the only person who matters.

Sensitivity and understanding isn't effeminate, it's how you handle it. There are people perceived as manly that express themselves healthily through writing.

It shouldn't matter, but isolation rails hard on people. Not everyone is into the edgelord ~lone wolf~ factor. Chill.

>implying reading doesn't unlock the secrets of the universe

maybe you should stop reading effeminate books

>> No.6842557

Reading is not in and of itself masculine. If the reader is manly, it becomes masculine.

For example, Theodore Roosevelt read quite a lot--sometimes multiple books in a day. He was also pretty manly. He hiked huge distances, killed an ungodly number of animals, and became president. He was a manly reader.

Professor SJW Mcfagpants at your local university is a reader. But he is not manly. He has no confidence, has to be submissive to women to get them to like him, tweets every detail of his life for the world to hear, uses hairspray, and is afraid of spiders. He is an unmanly reader.

Women should be taking care of children, and when their children are sleeping, taking care of their looks and their man. Only ugly, and therefore masculine women with no man and no children would have time to read.

Reading is a gender neutral activity.
