It actually gives lit more prominence. It'd be harder to see, and thus less popular if one had to view it through a list of more popular items. As it is, lit is competing with travel and lgbt, so I don't think we'd find an easier division.

The 'Other' category is like the MLB NL East.

Because literature is an essential aspect of the human condition, whereas the "interests" are specific and nonessential. The crucial experience of literature is not strictly "creative" either, leaving /lit/ to fall into "other".

That doesn't make any sense. The various sections had already been in in place when /lit/ was created, so why not just sort it under interests or creative? I could understand it if there hadn't been any of those categories when /lit/ arrived and moot was just to lazy to change it, but why put it into other when there were better alternatives already at that time?

frankly all of /lit/ would be happy for moot to be making any argument based on pure aesthetics.
frankly, placing 'us' in a 'wrong' or silly category that does not immediately seem to cohere with the subject matter is entirely correct, given 'our' collective fetish for Nietzche and Stirner
