I read it once, ages ago, and there was a lot of fapping involved (I was young). It's a quiet poetic story about a Paris man, "The Stranger," who likes to go to a village in Spain (Pyrenees?) and rents a cottage every summer. A young girl (Maria-Modesta) fixates on him, and... then she brings her friend... then a single woman comes to town...
The whole thing is written in that dreamy poetic 60s/70s French style, like Pierre Louÿs slumming, or Alain Robbe-Grillet. But there's something oddly forthright and captivating about it, and the sexual content is so matter-of-fact and realistic, it reminds you that this stuff wasn't always so taboo in fiction. I wish I could read his other novel (La Bravade) but it seems to have never been translated. The overall novel is light and a tad surreal, but could easily be a completely true confession by the author. It's the literary equivalent of David Hamilton: you can consider it art, dangerous pornography, meaningful, or without value.
