Was Tolkien a Christian philosopher like CS Lewis?

well?? was he??

>> No.675830

No. He was a philologist. Get a copy of Guy Davenport's THE GEOGRAPHY OF THE IMAGINATION and read the essay "Hobbitry" to get a sense of what Tolkien was and did. Also, read the rest of the book to have your mind expanded in a dozen different ways.

Look at that goddamn pipe!
Classy motherfucker.

Certainly he was a deeply religious man and his deep Catholic roots had a large part to play in his works, but I don't think he was. I don't think he ever expressly wrote on the subject.

I could be wrong though.

He was a religious man, but I don't think he wrote thinking as a christian.
Just read the sillmarillion.

Empiricism is self-refuting. Empiricism itself cannot be detected by any of the five senses. Furthermore, the idea that science is the only way to know something is silly, since we science can't account for empiricism. Actually there's a lot science can't account for.

In other words, that picture of yours is bullshit.
